Liam Morgan our candidate for Light is standing to give South Australians a clear choice on sensible cannabis law reform and fair treatment for medicinal cannabis patients.
He believes the current laws are outdated and are harming responsible adults who are following their doctor’s instructions. In particular, he supports changes to South Australia’s drug driving laws so that patients are not penalised simply for the presence of cannabis in saliva when they are not impaired.
Liam also supports South Australia’s proposed Cannabis Amnesty. The Amnesty would immediately end penalties for adults who use, possess or grow small amounts of cannabis for personal or medicinal use. This would stop South Australians being fined or criminalised for low level offences and allow patients who cannot afford prescription medicinal cannabis to grow their own supply.
Under the policy, police would no longer issue fines or charges for minor possession offences unless commercial activity or serious crime is involved. Existing low level cases would be discontinued and enforcement would shift away from punishment toward a more practical and health focused approach.
Liam believes these changes reflect community expectations and provide a sensible pathway forward while broader cannabis law reform continues to be debated.
He also supports the development of a strong hemp industry in South Australia that can create jobs, strengthen regional economies and open new opportunities in sustainable manufacturing and agriculture.
