Peter Waters is the Legalise Cannabis South Australia Party’s second candidate for the Legislative Council.
Peter is a husband, a father and works as a project manager in the construction industry.
His advocacy for cannabis reform began more than 10 years ago when his wife was prescribed multiple pharmaceutical medications that failed to improve her condition. He watched for years as these medications left her constantly depressed and drowsy, sometimes sleeping for days at a time, while still not relieving her symptoms.
When she eventually turned to cannabis for relief, it changed their lives. For the first time in years she was able to manage her symptoms and live without constant pain and fatigue. Peter says cannabis quite simply saved her life.
Through both his personal experience and his work in construction, Peter has seen firsthand how medicinal cannabis can help people manage serious conditions. As a project manager responsible for workplace safety and staff wellbeing, he has also seen how effective prescribed medicinal cannabis can be for employees dealing with chronic pain.
Peter believes current laws are failing responsible adults, particularly medicinal cannabis patients who continue to face unfair treatment under drug driving and workplace policies even when they are not impaired and are following medical advice.
He is standing to advocate for sensible cannabis law reform, fair treatment for patients and evidence based policies that reflect the real experiences of South Australians.
